Benjamin Hing BOptom (Hons) MCOptom Prof Cert Glauc
Ben began working holidays and weekends for the family practice from the age of 14 and after he completed his A-levels in 1999 he decided to have a year working full time for a large optical chain before going to Anglia Polytechnic University in 2000 to study Optometry. This experience gave him the opportunity to continue working weekends alongside his course and also stay with the company for his pre-registration year in Mansfield. He qualified as an Ophthalmic Optician in 2004, when he then started as a full time optometrist at Stephen Hing Opticians.
Ben also has the freedom of the City of London and became a Liveryman of The Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers in 2010. He has a specialist interest in contact lens fitting & design and is a member of the British Contact Lens Association.
In 2016, following further post graduate training he obtained the College of Optometrists Professional Certificate in Glaucoma.
Laura Hing FBDO
Laura completed work experience for a small independent opticians in Nottinghamshire in 1999, from here she got a Saturday position at a large optical chain working as a clinical assistant. She continued working for them whilst training, working in two of the largest practises in Cambridge and Nottingham, finally working her way up to team leader.
Laura started studying Optical Management and Dispensing at APU in 2001, joined us in 2005 and qualified as a Dispensing Optician in 2008. In the summer of 2012 Laura joined the London 2012 Olympic Gamesmakers as a dispensing optician, where they dispensed over 1500 pairs of spectacles to athletes, team leaders and other dignitaries. Laura became a freeman of the company of Spectacle Makers in 2015.
In 2015, both Laura and Ben became the owners of Hing Opticians after purchasing the practice from Stephen Hing. Laura is now in charge of running the practice.
Asha Flora BOptom (Hons) MCOptom Prof Cert Paed Eye Care
Asha graduated with a degree in Optometry from Anglia Ruskin University in 2013. After completing her pre-registration period, she continued to work for a large optical chain in Bedford.
After a couple of years, she wanted to gain more clinical exposure and joined Milton Keynes University Hospital as a part-time optometrist. Here she continues to work in a range of clinics, including paediatrics and Low Vision. In 2018 she joined Moorfields Eye Hospital (Bedford) where she continues to work in community clinics for the Bedfordshire Diabetic Eye Screening programme. Over the years she has worked in a variety of different opticians and joined Hing Opticians in late 2020.
Asha has completed post-graduate study and completed the College of Optometrists Professional Certificate in Paediatric Eye Care after passing the course at City University, London. Additionally, she has completed the Health Screening diploma in Diabetic Eye Screening. She is due to start the College of Optometrists Professional Certificate in Medical Retina in February 2021.
