About Us

Stephen Hing Opticians
Stephen Hing Opticians started life in 1979 in the front room of Stephen & Jackie’s family home. Many of our long standing patients may remember the Hing children toddling around on a Saturday morning whilst their Mum & Dad worked. The three children are still involved within the practice; Ben is an Optometrist, Sarah owns the footcare clinic on site and Emma is one of our Dispensing Opticians.

In 1985 Stephen bought Sydney A Smith Opticians in St Mary’s Street, Bedford. This practice closed in 2002 when we moved the business solely to Shefford.

Our current practice in Clifton Road, Shefford was transformed from an empty residential property into the purpose built clinic that we are today. We have two ground floor testing rooms with disabled access, a fully equipped pre-screening area, reception and waiting area plus an on site spectacle manufacturing laboratory.

Along with the free on site parking we feel there is excellent accessibility facilities for all, but if you feel that you may need any specific assistance when attending our practice, please advise our reception staff when booking your appointment and we will try and accommodate your needs.
